What Is Partner Betrayal Trauma?

According to Dr. Stefanie Carnes, partner betrayal trauma occurs when someone experiences deep emotional distress after discovering a partner’s infidelity or compulsive sexual behavior. This trauma can resemble symptoms of PTSD, such as anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and hypervigilance. Dr. Carnes emphasizes that these reactions are normal responses to a profound breach of trust. She advocates for trauma-informed, compassionate care that validates the betrayed partner’s experience rather than pathologizing it.

Reiki Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on helping you recognize, challenge, and reframe negative thought patterns that keep you feeling stuck. It’s an empowering method for managing anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and emotional overwhelm, equipping you with practical skills to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

Therapy

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

SFBT is a future-oriented therapy that focuses on your strengths, resources, and goals—not just your problems. By emphasizing what’s working and building on it, we help you find quick, meaningful steps forward—especially when you're feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about the next move.
